15th Annual Student-Initiated Access Programs & Services (SIAPS) Overnight Program
The SIAPS Overnight Program was founded in 2002 by a group of diverse students who saw a need to increase the enrollment of underrepresented and underserved students in higher education. Originally serving a limited number of local students, the program has steadily grown to serve students throughout California.
Today, the SIAPS Overnight Program continues to offer participants with experiences rooted in social justice, student empowerment, and multiculturalism.
The SIAPS Overnight Program has also partnered with the Black Resource Center, Black Student Union (BSU), Jacobs School of Engineering, LGBT Resource Center, and Raza Resource Centro to offer activities and workshops that are culturally relevant and academically based.
The SIAPS (pronounced like “shapes”) Overnight Program offers participants a variety of activities encompassing student life at UC San Diego and opportunities to connect with undergraduate students, alumni, and staff. Participants will be able to attend various workshops, campus tours, informational sessions, social events, and activities organized by the staff of SPACES, LGBT Resource Center and Raza Resource Centro.
Participants will have the opportunity to interact with students involved in the Asian & Pacific-Islander Student Alliance (APSA), Black Student Union (BSU), Kaibigang Pilipin@ (KP), Movimiento Estudiantil Chican@ de Aztlan (MEChA), Native American Student Alliance (NASA), and Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC).
There are a number of ways UC San Diego students can get involved
- Apply to host an admitted high school senior during the program. Applications are due by 8:00am on January 16th, 2018!
- Help plan the Overnight Program.
- Participate in the Phone-a-thon Campaign. Congratulate admitted high school seniors and invite them to participate in the Overnight Program.
- Volunteer throughout the weekend! We need all the help we can get.
All 3 tracks of the Overnight Program will occur at the same time and will have joint activities throughout the weekend.
