The BSU track of the Overnight Program was founded in 2009, and this year the Black Student Union (BSU) and the Black Resource Center (BRC) have created an extremely exciting experience to commemorate our 10 year anniversary! The BSU Overnight Program, rooted in social justice and a celebration of Blackness, seeks to offer a culturally relevant and authentic look at what UC San Diego has to offer to newly admitted students.
The BSU Overnight Program provides a unique opportunity for those interested in participating in the Overnight Program, but through a Black lens. Participants engage in joint activities with the SPICEE and JSOE tracks, but the BSU track provides a variety of activities that include interactive academic sessions (Biological Sciences Lab Tour, Visual Arts Department Tour, Theatre and Dance Tour, Social Sciences Lecture, and Future of Medicine Tour), alternative campus tours, and a number of social activities which emphasize the Black experience. Participants will also attend a community dinner which brings together campus administrators, faculty members, staff members, current students and leaders in the San Diego community, followed by the 7th Annual Flexin My Expression Spoken Word Night.
Students will interact with members of the Black Student Union (BSU), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), African Student Association (ASA), Black Campus Ministries (BCM), Black Graduate Student Association, Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC), and Black Greek Letter Organizations.
There are a number of ways UC San Diego students can get involved
- Apply to host an admitted high school senior during the program. Applications are due by 8:00am on January 22, 2019!
- Help plan the Overnight Program.
- Participate in the Phone-a-thon Campaign. Congratulate admitted high school seniors and invite them to participate in the Overnight Program.
- Volunteer throughout the weekend! We need all the help we can get.
All 3 tracks of the Overnight Program will occur at the same time and will have joint activities throughout the weekend.
